We Instruct with 3 Sections Driving Course

Part 1 – theory and hazard perception for driving

This is a rigorous theory examination designed exclusively for driving candidates. You will encounter two elements:

  1. Multiple choice questions – 100 questions selected from 4 categories:
  • Highway protocol
  • Road signs and signals, automobile controls
  • Structure of driving tests, legislation, disabilities
  • Teaching methods and resources

To pass, you need to obtain a minimum score of 20 out of 25 in each section and attain an overall score of at least 85%.

  1. Hazard perception – 14 video segments in a hazard detection assessment. You must achieve a minimum score of 57 out of 75.

We provide organised classroom sections, revision workshops, and practice mock examinations for your comprehensive preparation. Completion of this stage is necessary prior to advancing to the practical assessments

Part 2 – practical driving ability test

Part 2 involves a rigorous evaluation of your driving abilities in a testing environment. It generally extends for approximately one hour and comprises:

  • An eyesight check (identifying a car’s licence plate form designated distance)
  • Showcasing skill in all areas of vehicle management, danger prediction, proper application of roadway protocols, and environmentally conscious driving.
  • The examination permits a maximum of six minor driving errors but prohibits any serious or dangerous errors.
  • During the drive, several “show me/ tell me” safety questions are posed.

We offer scheduled practice driving tests, coaching sessions to refine behaviors, and feedback to personalize your performance. Your trainer might join you in an observational capacity (without intervening) during practice mock exams.

Part 3 – ability to instruct (evaluation of teaching)

In part 3, your teaching skills are evaluated directly. This stage is frequently regarded as the most challenging. Information comprises:

  • You provide a pupil (a learner or fully licensed driver who is not an ADI) to showcase your instructional abilities.
  • You deliver a formal lesson as the DVSA examiner watches from the back seat.
  • It is essential to provide a detailed lesson plan, outline the learning goals, adjust promptly to the student’s requirements, and oversee risk continuously.
  • Your evaluation will cover 17 competencies categorised into 3 sections:
  1. Lesson planning
  2. Management of risk
  3. Teaching and learning strategies

Scores vary from 0 to 3 on each competency with a highest total of 51. To achieve a passing grade – you usually require a minimum of 31 points, while grade A falls between 43 and 51. Crucially, achieving below 7 in the risk management section leads to failure no matter the overall score.

After you pass, you may submit your application to the DVSA to be added to the Register of Approved Driving driving (ADI) and start your legal career as a driver.
